CALL FOR PAPERS: ZORA REBOOTED: AI, LANGUAGE, AND LITERATURE. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS JANUARY 10

The College of Arts and Humanities at Bethune-Cookman University welcomes proposals for the annual Zora Neale Hurston Conference, which will be held virtually on February 13-14, 2025. Zora Rebooted: AI, Language, and Literature acknowledges the parallels between Hurston and AI in challenging and expanding our understanding of human creativity and identity. Noted Hurston scholar Dr. Deborah Plant is the scheduled keynote speaker. You are invited to submit scholarly, pedagogical, or creative proposals exploring any of the following:

1. Hurston Studies: New perspectives on Hurston's work, interests, and impact.

2. AI, Language, and Literature: Cutting-edge approaches to how AI intersects with literary studies, human creativity, and identity.

Suggested Topics on Zora Neale Hurston

• Hurston and African American folklore in a digital age

• Language, identity, and cultural reclamation in Hurston's work

• Hurston's influence on contemporary Black women writers

• Teaching Hurston in the modern classroom

• Hurston's anthropological methods and their relevance today

• AI and pedagogy: Navigating plagiarism and originality in the age of AI tools

• AI in film: Creativity and authorship challenges

• AI, oral traditions, and preserving cultural narratives

• AI and the reinvention of identity in digital spaces

• AI as a storyteller: Can machines "write" literature?

• AI in the Workplace: Opportunities, challenges, and the path forward

Submission Guidelines

• Presentations should not exceed 15 minutes.

• Submissions are also encouraged from community scholars and students.

Deadline: January 10, 2025. Notification of Acceptance: January 17, 2025.
