THE ELIZABETH J. WEST
FIRST-TIME ATTENDEE AWARD

The College Language Association offers the opportunity for a fee waiver for convention registration costs to selected first-time attendees who are college/university faculty members, undergraduate or graduate students. Selected recipients may represent various geographic regions. This award is named in honor of Dr. Elizabeth J. West, Past Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer of the College Language Association, 2008-2020, whose continued service to the Association has proven invaluable and whose financial support of this initiative has helped so many first-time attendees join our ranks.

Undergraduate and Graduate Students: Up to two students attending the CLA convention for the first time may each receive a convention registration fee waiver through this competitive process.

College/university faculty members: Up to two college/university faculty members attending the CLA convention for the first time may receive a convention registration fee waiver through this competitive process. 

Requirements

  1. Current or active membership with CLA  
  2. Request to be considered for the Elizabeth J. West First-Time Attendee Award on the convention proposal submission form
  3. Accepted to participate in convention panel/roundtable

Notification

Recipients of the First-Time Attendee Awards will be notified prior to the CLA convention. Note that reimbursement of the registration fees will be awarded at the CLA annual convention.

Responsibilities of Winners

Recipients of fee waivers must (1) be a member in good standing with CLA, (2) attend the CLA convention, and (3) attend the annual convention banquet to be recognized.
