Dear CLA Colleague:
In the spirit and memory of our esteemed colleague and my titular predecessor, Dr. Caroll Mills Young, it is with great pride that I announce on behalf of the CLA Study Abroad Scholarship Committee, the 13th Annual College Language Association Study Abroad Scholarship competition.
You and your students will find posted on the website at www.clascholars.org (under the “CLA Study Abroad Scholarship” link) the scholarship’s guidelines, application form, reference form, and application checklist.
Please share the scholarship information with interested students and colleagues, as well as with your institution’s study abroad center. We encourage all eligible students to apply and hope that your student will be the recipient of this distinguished award.
Kindly remember that each applicant must have a CLA faculty sponsor. The sponsor must:
- be a current financial member of the College Language Association in order for a student to be eligible for the scholarship competition.
- verify that the study abroad experience will take place in one of the following terms: Summer 2010, Fall 2010 or Winter/Spring 2011.
- verify that the application is complete and is ready for committee review.
- sign the application and complete the checklist.
- verify that a student who received the award has submitted his/her written summary of the study abroad experience.
The committee will do its best to consider all candidates; however, incomplete applications will be withdrawn from the competition.
