North Carolina Central University, Visiting Lecturer in Spanish

 The MFL Department at North Carolina Central University invites applications for a one-year contract as Visiting Lecturer in Spanish for academic year 2010-2011.  A Master's in Spanish and near native proficiency in Spanish and English is required.  A record of three years' teaching experience with diverse student populations is required.  The normal teaching load is twelve semester hours spread over Spanish I, II and III courses.  The one-year appointment may be renewable based on the needs of the department.  Applicants must be skilled in the use of technology in foreign language pedagogy.  Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until positions are filled.  Please submit a letter of interest, curriculum vit

Assistant Professor of Translation Studies and Spanish Linguistics in the Department of Languages and Culture Studies at the University of North Carolina Charlotte

Assistant Professor of Translation Studies and Spanish Linguistics in the Department of Languages and Culture Studies at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. This is a full-time, tenure-track position to begin August 2010.  Preference given to a PhD in either Translation Studies or Spanish Linguistics at time of hire. Areas of scholarly or teaching competency should include English/Spanish translation (non-literary: legal, science/technology, and/or medical domain preferred).  Preference also to applicants with training or experience in one or more of the following: computer-assisted translation (CAT), linguistics (pragmatics or semantics), or lexicography/terminology. Experience in translation project management and potential to attract extramural funding also desirable.

Assistant Professor of Translation Studies, Department of Languages and Culture Studies at the University of North Carolina Charlotte

Special Program Assistant Professor of Translation Studies in the Department of Languages and Culture Studies at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. This is a nine-month appointment with an initial three-year contract. Position start date is August 16, 2010.  
Required qualifications include a PhD in Translation Studies or related field at the time of hire and   teaching competency in English/Spanish and Spanish/English translation (non-literary: legal, and/or medical domain preferred). Desired qualifications include training or experience in computer-assisted translation or lexicography/terminology, experience working on team projects, and potential to help attract extramural funding.  


The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in translation English/Spanish and Spanish/English in non-literary fields; supervise student interns in the department, especially at the graduate level; and manage translation projects in a planned recharge unit for Foreign Language Services and Assessment in the Department of Languages and Culture Studies.

Visiting Assistant Professor in Spanish, Department of Languages and Culture Studies at the University of North Carolina Charlotte

The Department of Language and Culture Studies at UNC-Charlotte seeks to hire a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Spanish.  Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand, a strong research record, excellent teaching credentials and a native or near native proficiency in Spanish.  A focus on contemporary peninsular literature is highly desirable.  Other preferred qualifications include the ability to teach a creative writing course and literary translation.  Duties would include three courses per semester (15 weeks). The candidate would also be expected to contribute to the intellectual climate of the department either through public readings or creative workshops.  Position start date is August 16, 2010.

The Department of English at Rider University seeks to hire a specialist in composition studies in a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin September 2010. Completion of a Ph.D. in composition studies or closely related field required. The teaching load is six sections per academic year and may include expository writing, research writing, upper-division writing, core literature, and sharing in coordination of the first-year composition program. Ithaca College, Department of English, Assistant Professorship in African-American Literature

Ithaca College, Department of English, invites applications for a one-year assistant professorship in African-American literature with the possibility of future appointments pending departmental needs, beginning August 16, 2010. Department of World Languages and Cultures at Howard University, Assistant Professor in Spanish


The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Howard University invites applications for a tenure-track position for a full-time Assistant Professor in Spanish with specializations in two of more of the following areas:

Transnational Narratives and Representations of Immigration

Experience in Distance Learning also desirable. The position requires native or near native fluency in Spanish. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, creative teacher, committed to the growth and development of the undergraduate and graduate Spanish programs, and a scholar who shows promise of sustained publication, as required for appointment and reappointment to the Graduate School faculty.
