ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – AFRICAN AMERICAN LITERATURE

Ithaca College's Department of English invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible position in African American literature, beginning AY 2012-13. In addition to teaching African American literature courses at the undergraduate level, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach courses in African American and/or multicultural literature to graduate students in MAT program.

Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to teach in ways that value the varied learning needs and interests of a culturally diverse student population, and that reflect a commitment to supporting the needs of all students. We also seek candidates who have relevant experience and/or a record of professional engagement with groups and communities underrepresented in the academy.

Candidates from underrepresented groups whose exclusion from the academy has been longstanding are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications: Teaching experience and PhD in English or related field preferred; however, ABD candidates who have made significant progress towards completion of the degree are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Assistant Professor in Professional and Technical Writing

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, a member of the University of Wisconsin System, is located 30 miles from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul in scenic west central Wisconsin. 

The Department of English is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor in professional and technical writing to teach upper-division professional writing courses and lower-division courses in composition
beginning in Fall 2012. Teaching load is normally twelve credits per semester. Advising students,supervising internships, scholarly activity, and active participation in departmental and university professional activities are also expected. Required Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Professional or Technical Communication by August 2012 with a specialization in digital media, grant writing, technical editing, or visual rhetoric.

Assistant Professor in Creative Writing

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, a member of the University of Wisconsin System, is located 30 miles from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul in scenic west central Wisconsin. 

We are seeking an Assistant Professor in Creative Writing, beginning August 2012, to teach in the Department of English, which has an English-Creative Writing Emphasis major with more than 80 majors and minors in the program. We are looking for an accomplished writer with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, publications in one creative writing genre (preferably fiction) and the ability to teach in at least one other genre. Further teaching responsibilities include teaching composition and literature courses and designing writing, cultural, or humanities courses to fit specific goals in the General Education program. Second field is open, dependent upon the applicant’s areas of expertise. 

Required Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in literature or creative writing by August 2012, university teaching experience in area of expertise, fiction preferred, nonfiction or poetry also acceptable, publication in one creative writing genre, fiction preferred, and a willingness to advise and mentor students and to assist with visiting writers, student publications, and readings. Compensation is based on qualifications, including education and experience. The normal teaching load is 12 units. The University expects creative/scholarly activity appropriate to field, including research, scholarship, and creative endeavor, that supports its programs. Desired Qualifications: Editorial experience with a literary magazine and experience in the literary editing and publishing fields.

Assistant Professor of Japanese

Assistant Professor of Japanese in the Department of Languages and Culture Studies at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. This is a full-time, tenure-track position to begin August 15, 2012. Specialty is open, but preference will be given to candidates with experience in digital humanities and teaching Japanese film, including anime, and/or Japanese business or translation. Candidate must have native proficiency in English; native or near-native proficiency in Japanese; a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates; enthusiasm for making dynamic, innovative contributions to the intellectual mission of Japanese Studies; clear potential for scholarly excellence as demonstrated by a focused research agenda; and PhD at time of initial appointment. This faculty position requires teaching writing courses (Composition 1 & Composition 2), with occasional opportunities to teach Literature courses.
